Pump it UP!

As many of you know I am a shoe aficionado and I've been having withdrawals the last three months. I've been taking a look around and am seeing some pretty exciting trends for 2011.
Remember when I mentioned color? Well, color blocking in shoes is a must AND you know me...I love color; so color on my feet is very yummy.
Pastels are emblematic of romanticism and this season the romantics are taken to new levels. Studs, peep toe, strappy...oh yummy.
Major one: thick heels. Yes they snuck in about 3 years ago, but now they will be acclaimed by the masses. These heels make you feel strong, confident, and in demand!
And these are just eye candy.love love love

Look #1 Complete!

So it's finally here! The coat was turned in today :D 1 down and 5 more to go by the end of April. In this picture you see Kristy, my model for the coat. These are a few pictures of the coat before it was fully lined. Being that this coat is double breasted I'm pretty sure I will go back and add two more snaps to the inside of the coat so that the coat bottom layer will not swing out. Other than that I think it looks fabulous! Add some heels, a French twist, and some DVF 1970s sunglasses and this girl is ready to stand and deliver! It feels good to see my design on someone else (and I can touch it!). As you can see The coat changed a bit on the front my original design in that there is a continuation of the yoke fabric down the opening edge of the coat.

The back has an inverted pleat that is currently sewn down (in the pic it's pinned down) so that it will maintain it's shape until it's actually worn.

By the way, I recently stumbled across Adobe Photoshop and I have to say, I love a quite a few functions in there. Look at what I was able to do in the first pic; I cut her silhouette out and pasted it onto another pic...pretty cool. Now onto collection look #2 dress and a jacket. Show me with some pics, what dress/jacket combos make you feel sassy?

THE coat: the beginning stages

When I began with the design process this is the coat I fell in love with and decided to make for my senior collection. I want the feel of a swing coat without the hassle of the excess fabric (especially for living in Texas where it does not get too cold to wear a swing coat frequently). After watching "White Christmas" for this first time December 2010 I became inspired by the big coat Betty wore.
She seemed very embraced with this coat. I suppose the way a snuggie makes us feel today, except this one can be worn in public. (PLEASE DON"T GO OUT IN PUBLIC WITH A SNUGGIE! Ofcourse, unless you're Kristen and very sick). This coat kind of describes the feeling. Tell me, do you have a garment that makes you feel all "warm and fuzzy"?
This is the muslin (sample of real coat) for my coat thus far. It has lantern raglan sleeves with a yoke going all around the body. It also has an inverted pleat in the back.
As the design sketch goes to fabric, the design itself changes because what we imagine may not always actually look good in "real life" so stay tuned for the updated design in fashion fabric next week!

I Smell 60s in the Air!

I've been taking a look at the 2011 pre-fall collections and it seems like the 80s are rolling out on skates while the 60s are cycling in with exciting colors and styles. From my research the 60s seem to be a combination of the late 50s and early 70s thus giving us a delightful blend of glamour.
Some trends that really have my wheels turning are: the extremes of rich colors and pastels, fullness in skirts and pants, long lengths in skirts and pants, exaggerated collars, and furr and leather.

Overall, these new collections are fearless when it comes to color. They compel me to go to the dressing room and play with the palettes. A change that I'm noticing from the past few years is cleanliness. Ostentatious embellishments are absent, the focus is on clean lines and good fit. Tell me, what trend will you like to try next fall?

Bienvenido!

As you know I am quite a busy lady in this chapter of life, however at the request of friends and family I have created this window to allow for a peek into the life of fashion design student in her senior year. It's not easy, yet very rewarding in many ways.
